We are generally either consumed with too much to do and too little time, or too much time and not enough to do. Where are you?
Are you the type of person that is rushing around with a million and one things to do and get done, or are you walking around aimlessly wondering what to do first or next? Perhaps you aren't even sure if you really want to do anything.
Being a single mom, operating a coaching business, working a part time job, managing the household chores and responsibilities, as well as having a teenage daughter with all her ups and downs and who is also not old enough to drive, can fill my days and evenings. In addition, making time to write my book and newsletters, work on upcoming workshops and projects, as well as having quality time for myself and my daughter, requires some creative thinking and planning on my part.
Time... What's that? It's the space in between you doing, and/or wondering what you "should" do that can make a world of difference in your moods, energy, creativity, and well being.
There is no doubt that filling time or trying to make more time is an ongoing concern for many people.
Time is not really the issue although it certainly takes a lot of our blame.
Here are a few examples; see if any of these sound familiar:
By the time I get home from work there isn't any time.
There's never a good time.
It's not the right time.
I'm just killing time.
I'm waiting for the right time.
Time is money.
Time is of the essence.
I have too much time on my hands or not enough time.
There isn't enough time in the day.
What should I do with my time.
It sure constitutes many of our excuses, doesn't it? It's not the enemy, yet some days it seems like it.
How we choose to make use of it is important, but what's more important is, are you enjoying any of it? Are you utilizing it for your benefit and well being?
If you are the type of person that's always busy running here and there, or trying to fit everything in, or consumed with getting jobs done, meeting deadlines, etc., then you need to schedule in at least 1/2 hour just for you. It's also important periodically to take a few minutes throughout the day as well, and as many conscious breaths (deep breathing) as often as possible.
During your breaks you don't want to be thinking of all the things you "should" be doing, or what's next, or who you have to call or email, etc. This time is meant for recharging and clearing your mind.
Perhaps you could take a walk, meditate, sit outside, stretch, smile, focus on key words like relaxation, "me" time or creativity, look at nature or a picture that calms you, and remember to take some deep breaths.
Maybe you could prioritize the night before and see if you can delegate any of the things on your list so you can make quality time for you.
If you are always doing, it's key to stop once in awhile and smell the roses so to speak. Life is always rushing by you. Are you enjoying a piece of it each day?
Don't wait for your vacations, make time for mini mind vacations everyday.
Then there are those that don't seem to know what to do. They have all the time in the world and don't know what to do with it, or what they need to do first, or what they "should" be doing, or they are always thinking but never doing.
Maybe you could start your day by making a list of some of your interests, things you would like to do, projects that need to be done, courses you would like to take, places you would like to go to and books you would like to read, etc.
If you are this person, it's important to start a task and finish it. Even if it's just for an hour or so, stick to one thing at a time, then go onto the next. When you complete something, take some time for you to just be without thinking of what you "should" be doing or not doing because you don't know where to begin, or what to do with yourself, or just filling time.
When you have too much time on your hands, make sure that you schedule time for you differently than usual. Go for a walk, breathe deeply throughout the day, use your imagination and creativity, write, journal, meditate, be in nature, take tai chi or yoga, write words that inspire or relax you, etc.
No matter which type of person you are, this moment can be an opportunity for you to stop what you are doing, or thinking about doing or not doing, and relax.

Remember, no matter whether you have too little time or too much, it's the quality and enjoyment of it, not the quantity or lack of it.
