With the increasing demands and expectations we often place upon ourselves, as well as the pace of life quickening for many, or the feeling of time running out, it can be difficult to enjoy life to the fullest.
We are either reliving or feeling stuck in the past, complaining and stressed and/or anxious about our current situations, or worrying about the future. This leaves our relationship with present moments slipping away as soon it arrives without even a second thought, let alone the enjoyment and appreciation of what it’s offering.
Living life to the fullest isn’t about filling the emptiness with things or experiences, rather it’s enjoying the fullness of experiences and things unfolding around you.
The roses haven’t stopped blooming, but because you are worrying about something or someone, or what decision to make, or where or what you are doing next, perhaps you aren’t taking the time to stop and smell them. So, they go unnoticed or you give a quick passing glance as if you have seen a thousand roses before and they are all the same.
What are you allowing to slip past you that’s right before your very eyes?
Sometimes the Universe has a funny and often not so funny way of making you slow down and pay attention to your body’s need for rest, or events occur that force you to take a step back or stop you dead in your tracks. So you can take a deep breath and take a look around you at where you are in the present moment and where you are heading and, perhaps what you are missing.
Kahlil Gibran said, “And forget not the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair”.
How can you enjoy life to the fullest when you are too busy or pre-occupied with your thoughts to slow down or to stop and delight in the wonders life is offering you. It is offering, but you have to be willing to receive.
Life is filled with many enticing, enchanting, passionate, abundant, peaceful, loving, breath-taking, playful, beautiful, and intimate moments that enhance our physical, emotional and spiritual lives. How can you not delight in them? How can you let them slip away or pass you by?
Perhaps you hear the song of a sparrow or see a rainbow after a storm or the lightening dancing in the sky or the brightness of a full moon lighting your way or the smell of rain or the glistening golden sun shining on your day. Maybe it’s the sound of raindrops dancing on the rooftop or the silence of the snow or the stillness of a sunset or watching the wonder of animals in their habitats.
Maybe you see the sparkle in someones eyes or a smile upon a face or you experience a warm embrace or a hot cup of tea. Perhaps you have the pleasure of hearing the laughter of children or experience the longing of missing someone or the pleasure of the warmth of someone next to you while you drift off to sleep or allowing tears of joy and sorrow to flow freely or you witness or experience the birth of a child.
All of these, and millions more, are knocking on your heart’s door and opening your inner and outer eyes and ears, and heightening your senses to all that surrounds and supports you and offering you enjoyment each and every day.
When you enjoy life to the fullest, you cease to let the wonders and miracles of life pass you by and embrace as many of them as possible. Even when things in your life might seem to be going all wrong, you rejoice in the goodness and greatness and what’s going right.
There is something or someone to appreciate and enjoy this very moment even if you aren’t able to see it or experience it right now. It’s there patiently waiting for you to embrace and breathe the fullness in slowly.
Stop what you are doing. Let go of all that is bothering or worrying you right now. Take a look around you or step outside. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What can you touch?
Can you experience the fullness and enjoyment that this very moment is offering you?
Are you able to allow it to fill you even if it’s just for a short time before your thoughts or busyness take over again? You can enjoy life to the fullest with the unfolding of each moment so don’t let another one slip by.
