Wellness might be catching on. Maybe? Even the fast food industry is paying attention.

They used to sell value for your dollar. Cheap, Fat, Sugared and Salted foods, engineered to taste great, to look great, to smell great, to condition you to eat It their way! And we did. In fact, we did such a good job of it that it became some of our greatest exports, our claim to fame, our way of Americanizing the world. When that wasn’t good enough, we supersized It, ensuring that our value was greater by making sure our sodas were extra large and so were our fries. Sugar, Fat, Salt, White Flour and Cheap!

They engineered our foods and programmed our minds as they found their way to our hearts, the way to our practical, stressed out, expedient selves. They made it easy and convenient. They hooked us on a lifestyle that seemed to make sense: unforeseen consequences, non-sense to us, Dollars and Cents to them. They were concerned about their bottom line, while we forgot about our Fat Bottoms burgeoning out of control. They marketed to our children and we thought it was cute, toys with their meals and play-lands too.

We condemn homicide, which we should, yet tolerate and ignore Faticide. Obesity and its unhealthy repercussions kill more than killers do as we joyfully laugh and eat and drink our way to unconscious irresponsible living. We wonder why our kids are getting fatter, why this new generation is predicted to live shorter lives than their parents as we prepare for that special event, that Super Party with all those tasty, processed tidbits that we can buy, serve, consume, and then angrily wonder why our health costs are soaring.

We willingly live as if our health has nothing to do with the way we conduct our lives. We support illness instead of wellness and then complain about the consequences of what this costs.

Maybe the recession will teach us something. Maybe there is a silver lining in here somewhere. Maybe natural or manmade disasters and the ravages of death will help us change our perspective. Maybe we will begin to change our priorities of gluttony and irresponsible convenience to a more loving and caring, healthful and helpful society that cares about its people and its health rather that its bottom line and its greed.

Wellness needs to do more than catch on. It needs to become our national credo. We may not be able to control forces greater than we, but we can CHOOSE wellness over illness. Paying attention to and carefully choosing what we eat and drink, how we exercise and relieve stress are all good starts and all within our willful control.

We see signs that change is coming. Will you lead it by changing your behavior and supporting others to do that same? Or Not!

Right now they, the food pushers of the world, are providing a slight change in menu to placate us as they fight legislation that demands informing us about the truth of what they serve.

Don’t eat it, accept it, or believe it, as it is now served. Once they feel the pressure, they will have reason to change. You have power over illness. It is called WELLNESS! Use it or lose it. Wellness and Health once gone is tough, sometimes impossible to reclaim.

Author's Bio:

Hi, I am Gary S. Grossman Ph.D.
affectionately known as
Dr. I WannaWanna.
I am a Personal Development and Wellness Coach for successful people; i.e. people, like you, who can DO what you intend to DO when you know What to DO and How and have the support necessary to Succeed.
I began my professional career in 1971 working with addicts on the streets of New York City. I was quickly known as the 90 Day Wonder. It was a term of derision. They mocked me, knowing full well that I had no right to pretend that I knew the "Truths" of their lives or their circumstances. Thankfully I was smart enough to agree with them. They were right. I didn't know their truths or their circumstances and what I learned in college didn't teach me this either.

I, however, knew that they KNEW and if I could show them the honor and respect that they were worthy of, once they trusted me, I might be able to help them.
I respected, they trusted, they got help and I made a career decision to respect the fundamental differences in people, and with their permission to help them with our fundamental similarities.

I have been doing this work ever since. You see I learned "It" is about Helping YOU and them with Your "It", Your Fat, Your Life with permission and respect.

I have over 50,000 hours of "in chair" experience helping people like YOU SUCCEED!

I have lived a life that includes highlights and failure, burnout and recovery. I have been there and done that. My task is to help if I can and to refer elsewhere as appropriate.

My goal is to help you Lose Fat and to build A Fat Fight Plan, a Life Plan that you can self monitor effectively and proudly for the rest of your life.
