Earl Nightingale said, "Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savoured."
What wonderful words of wisdom. Are you living by them?
It’s so easy to fall into the trap of the waiting game…
Waiting for a better break, or a new job to take,
or the phone to ring, or what money will bring,
or health and well being, or a relationship with meaning,
or things to be better, or different weather,
or waiting for tomorrow, or something to borrow,
or a body of steel, or to cut a deal,
or for the kids to behave, or your way to be paved.
Something has to change for you to be happy and content, right?
Wrong, the truth is you can be happy right now! You don’t have to wait for
someone or something, or for tomorrow, before your life is joyful and meaningful.
You can blame and complain about people and problems creating the unhappiness
in your life, or you can look at the possibilities for pleasure right now.
You are the key to your contentment. Each day offers many opportunities to be
joyful, but we don’t always recognize them.
Begin by looking at the beauty all around you, as well as things, situations and
people already in your life. There is a lot to be thankful for and enjoyed if you
open your eyes and heart.
Even though your job or lack of, partner or being alone, children or friends,
finances and security, health and well being, etc. may not be the way you want
at this point in time it doesn’t mean you can’t be happy and content.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it doesn’t take any more energy to focus
on the negative then it does on the positive, but the choice is yours.
You can see the glass as half full or half empty.
You can enjoy what you have or bemoan what you don’t have.
You can take steps to improve your life or you can stay stuck and stressed.
You can breathe deep or shallow.
You can trust and have faith or worry and fret.
You can celebrate life as it is or wait for it to change.
You can take steps forward or backwards.
You can look to the possibilities or to the problems.
You can open the door of opportunities or close it.
You can choose happiness or unhappiness.
You can open your heart to love or shut it down with fear and/or hate.
You can forgive or hold a grudge.
You can be peaceful or stressed.
You can build confidence and esteem in yourself and others or perpetuate
sabotaging and unkindness.
You can be caring or cruel.
You can see beauty or ugliness.
You can believe or not believe.
You can let go and be happy today or tomorrow.
The choice is yours in any given moment to be thankful and joyous.
Is it easy to do? Not always as it can be difficult to remember that happiness is
an option; but with awareness comes awakening and here is where true happiness awaits you.
