Dr. Stephen Walker is a licensed healthcare professional who has served as a therapist coach and athletic & personal performance consultant for the past 33 years in the Rocky Mountain Region. His Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology was conferred in 1983 culminating in the publication of research that brought together the fields of psychology, exercise physiology, biofeedback and human performance in response to stress. Dr. Walker possesses an in-depth understanding of the developmental needs of kids adolescents and adults while being attentive to the mental skills required to excel in a wide variety of situations where optimum performance is desirable. He offers a unique combination of experience, skills assessment, and knowledge in the dynamics of team and work group chemistry in addition to coach/athlete relationships to be helpful in almost any competitive or performance driven situation.
As a consultant at the Human Performance Laboratory, and Sport Psychology instructor from the University of Colorado, Dr. Walker has interviewed world-record holders and consulted with All-American collegiate athletes, Olympians and performing artists in a variety of endeavors. In 1981, Dr. Walker founded the Rocky Mountain Institute for Health & Performance and for the better part of two decades specialized in the treatment of stress related disorders, injury rehabilitation & prevention and performance enhancement through skills acquisition, biofeedback and self-care training. He is co-author of “The Road to Recovery”, a monograph focusing on diagnosis and the development of specific treatment regimens for injury rehabilitation. Academically, Dr. Walker has published papers and presented research in both the professional literature and in symposiums presented to The Society for Behavioral Medicine, Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, and Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology in addition to others.
Dr. Walker is a catalyst in the development of respected sports and corporate health & performance programs. He is a passionate advocate for young people and draws upon his own personal zeal for life music & athletics that has spanned 40 years since he earned his first high school letter. He qualified All-American as a high school swimmer, is an expert skier, single digit handicap golfer, musician, and an enthusiast of martial arts and the performing arts. He is married to his beautiful wife Donna, has three children and two grandchildren.
