Having begun his training in The Way of Mind Body Coordination (Shin Shin Toitsu Do) in 1985, and with over 30 years of professional experience in the health care field, Irwin Hoenig has developed a unique perspective of how to help the body heal.
While “Mind Body Coordination” may sound like New-Age magical thinking, it is actually a very practical method for eliminating unnecessary muscle tension, maintaining a state of mindful focus, and staying calm under pressure. Achieving this state is teachable, objectively testable, and reproducible
His training in mind body coordination and its martial art counterpart, Ki-Aikido, began while he was still an invasive cardiovascular technologist at a world-renown cardiology center. During that training, he learned Kiatsu Ryoho (Ki pressure therapy), which he successfully incorporated into specific situations with the heart patients and also with his colleagues (who usually spent over 8 hours a day on their feet while wearing heavy lead aprons). .
Realizing that cardiology was not his calling, he enrolled in massage school in 1995 and took his first CranioSacral Therapy (CST) seminar in 1997 - two weeks before graduating. CST gave him a deeper understanding that working with the body's intelligence is far more effective than trying to make it do what the therapist thinks it needs to do to heal.
For several years after graduating from massage school, Irwin became an instructor in anatomy, physiology, and bodywork techniques for the Basic (Swedish Massage) and Advanced (myofascial release) levels. He now is a Certified Presenter of CranioSacral Therapy workshops for the Upledger Institute.
He believes that education is an important part of the healing process and uses his skills to empower his clients toward that end.
