*My Encounter in Bank Today*. I had gone to renew my ATM card today, I thought it was going to be a simple process, it would have been but my signature was irregular. The one I have is different from the one I used to open the account. "What should I do" I asked the lady who was attending to me. She said I needed to update my account, and she asked me to go and pick another form. I had to go back home to pick some documents to complete the update form. When I returned and filled the form, I was told that my signature was still irregular. "What should I do?" I asked again. "You will need to change your signature." Ok, "Can I do that now?" "Is not that simple, you will have to wait for some days" I need this card today, please. Do anything to help me. "There is nothing we can do. You will have to wait" She said. "well, please can you show me the old signature, so I can copy it?" "Sorry, I can't do that. I am sorry" She replied. "Can I talk to your manager?" I pressed. "You can" she replied reluctantly. So I walked upstairs to see the Manager, when I opened his door, he stood up with a big smile and said " Pastor Felix, good morning, good to see you here. I read your Wisdom Digest every day." After exchanging pleasantry, I told him I have a little problem, I have been in this bank for about 3 hours, I need to renew my ATM card, but my signature is irregular. You should just have walked to my office directly, am so sorry. So he picked his phone and spoke with the lady I had exhausted my energy trying to convince and said “I have my pastor here, and I want you to issue him his ATM card. I know about the irregular signature, I will sign on the form” That was it, within 20 minutes I have my new card with me. I learnt 5 important lessons from this experience: 1. Protocols are broken every day. When you hear “that is not our policy here, we don’t do this, we are sorry.” Don’t accept it, there are ALWAYS exceptional cases where rules are either blended or adjusted, or ignored or totally broken. Expect rules to be suspended because of you. When people turn you down, don’t turn around and walk away. 2. Never take rejection personal. You see, in the same bank, I met two different people, they treated me differently. One treated me just like any other customer, another treated as a VIP. One saw it as if I was just disturbing her, another saw it as a honour to assist me. The irony of it is this: It was the boss that honour me. Same me, but what those persons saw were different. When people reject you, smile and tell yourself “It’s because you don’t know who I'm yet!” 3. Impossibility is possible. That lady told me it would take several days to get the card, yes she was only doing her job, but I got the card all the same. When you hear it’s not possible, most times, it’s actually possible if you persist. 4. Higher power overrides lower power. If you are turned down by the lower power, see if you can talk to the higher power, if you can get the attention of the higher power, you can change the verdict of the lower power. Insist on talking to the highest authority. 5. Relationship can get you anything. Just anything, I told my bank Manager’s Friend “This is the power of relationship" he smiled and said “It makes things easy” About the Author. Duyilemi A.
