Why meditate? Meditation is a cross cultural, age old practice, proven to have a direct impact on the mind, body and spirit. Meditation can free the mind from worry; lower blood pressure in the body; ease pain; and help a person to connect spiritually.
Why meditate on God's Word? Most forms of meditation involves focusing the mind on releasing negative thoughts and energy. However, Christian meditation, the practice of meditating on Biblical scriptures, not only frees the mind from negative thoughts, but it also fills the mind with God's Word, which has the power to heal, bring peace, and connect one with God through spirit and truth.
What does the Bible say about meditating?
1. God tells his people to meditate. "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." (Joshua 1:8)
2. The blessed person meditates. "The blessed man's delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law does he meditate day and night." (Psalm 1:2)
3. Meditation builds faith. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." (Romans 10:17)
4. It brings life and health to the body. "My son, attend to my words, incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh." (Proverbs 4:20-22)
5. It brings health. "It [God's law and commandments] shall be health to thy navel and marrow to thy bones." (Proverbs 3:8)
