When talking to contractors beware of any deals that they offer you that sound too good to be true because it probably is. Yes, HVAC companies do offer seasonal specials and other deals throughout the year but if the contractor offers or advertises service calls much cheaper than others beware. You may also want to avoid contractors that offer free service calls because most reputable companies will at least charge you a fee for coming to the house even if the company offers a free estimate. The companies that offer free or cheaper service calls may add those charges in other replacement or repair fees.

Repairs and replacement of your HVAC units can be expensive so it is only natural that you want to save money but you should be aware of estimates that are very low. Hiring a HVAC repair technician that gives you a very low estimate could be doing work that is not according the specs of the manufacture or cutting corners on the replacement parts so do not automatically sign a contract because of a very low bid.

When talking to a possible HVAC repair technician make sure that you ask they how long they have been in business. If you are looking at their website that information should be on there somewhere. Every year one out of every five HVAC companies fails so you should look for someone who has been in business at least five years because most likely they have weathered the difficulties of the economy.

You should also make sure that the contractor you are hiring is licensed and insured. You should also ask for references so you can check to see what others have to say about their work both positive and negatively. Make sure that you call several of the references. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau to see if they are registered and if there are any complaints against them. Do your research before signing any HVAC contract to help ensure that you will have the work done correctly.
