There are three different kinds of display technology type for your HDTV; LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), LED (Light Emitting Diode) and Plasma. OLED and Rear Projection are these two other new types of display technology type for HDTVs, but they are not yet well received in the global market so there isn’t anything much that tells about these products. LCD

LCDs are the most common flat panel TVs that are sold today, simply because they are cheaper. LCD TVs are best to use at bright room areas because their screens are matte finish, therefore it doesn’t reflect light. However, LCD TVs are not best to be used in dark areas. Because depending on where you are seated or positioned at while watching the TV; you will notice the difference when you are watching in dark areas. The distribution of radiance in your TV will affect your eyes when you suddenly turn on the lights after watching in dark areas.

LED

LED TVs are slicker and has thinner panels than that of the LCDs and they consume less electricity power too. But they are way more expensive than LCDs and offer no difference when it comes to picture quality. But if you want a thinner TV than an LCD TV then go for this one. LEDs also performs better in bright areas just like the LCDs.

Plasma

On the contrary, Plasma TVs are better to be used in dark areas because its features are suited in this environment. Plasma TVs comes in larger screens than LCDs and LEDs to give you that indoor cinema feeling. But Plasma TVs consumes more electric power compared to LCDs and LEDs. Unlike the two previous types which the screens come in a matte finish, Plasma TVs have glass screens that reflect light in bright areas. So this doesn’t really perform well in bright areas.

OLED and Rear-Projection

Now, the remaining two other types, which are; OLED and Rear-Projection, all I can say is that if you really like to have a very, very large TV screen, go for these types because as far as I know they are the only ones that are being made within 55inches screens and higher. So if you are the one who really wants real large TV screens in your house and has the money to risk in these new types of display technology then go for these types.

It is your job as a buyer and a customer to know the facts first before buying the right kind of display technology type that suits your taste. So be very careful in choosing the right one for you because a lot of facts and details are just there to confuse you, ask the sales person to turn on the TV and put the same movie on every kind of display technology type so you will see the difference, believe me, there are many things that the sales reps knows about their products that they are not telling us. But I personally suggest that buying an LCD TV is the best option because they are inexpensive and they work just fine..
