One of the hardest things to do in life is get yourself unstuck.
When navigating changes in our lives whether positive changes or not so positive changes we find ourselves more aware of our cyclical patterns. Going in circles is hard to change. Once those patterns develop, they quickly become ingrained.
Getting off the roundabout is one of the focuses of our weekend workshops (http://www.toolsforlifemasterytour.com) and we’re really happy about being able to provide good, solid, usable tools to get you on a path of forward momentum.
But what about right now, today? How about some solid steps to take immediately to get unstuck?
Here are ten ways to start getting yourself out of that slump, starting today.
1) Go Public
That’s right….don’t hide your quest under a cloak…get the word out there to family, friends, your blog, FB….twitter it! One word of caution…this is can be a fragile step if you reach out to family or friends who are not naturally supportive. Choose your very own cheerleading squad, with a team that you know will be in your corner.
2) Choose One
How many things are on your self-improvement to-do list? If you are like most of us, the list is longer than the one you have on the refrigerator for the grocery store. You will never make headway when you are overwhelmed with numbers. Choose one goal….just one and focus on that..one…goal.
3) Put the focus on benefits, not sacrifice
This may be just another way to say to focus on the positive, but it works well. You are going to make a point to think about, write about, meditate about the great things that will transpire in your life because you have made the effort to commit to this particular change. Replace “Grr..I have to get up at 6 am to get my run in”, with “I know I will sleep so much better at night when I get my morning run accomplished daily”.
4) Get Visual
You can get just as creative with this as you want…the more creative the better because it is personalized for just you. In your living space, relaxing space, work space have a large reminder of your goal. Make this large enough to catch your eye and change it up between the posting on your bathroom mirror to the one stuck to the side of your office computer screen.
5) Get Yourself Pysched!
It isn’t only we Sun-signed Aries personalities that like to start change right now. Once we make up our mind or get a great inspiration we want to leap in that moment into action. Try this…set a date two weeks from now, five days from now, or pick a date that has meaning to you. This is one of the benefits of something like our Tools for Life Mastery Workshop weekends. You register and get to look forward to the day…build your anticipation to really get your heart engaged with what is coming.
6) Get Inspired
There are so many ways to find inspiration. When you have your goal, find others that have found successes in that area, or even those are on a similar path. Blogs are a great way to find inspiring stories, magazines and certainly books. Try googling your goal to see what you come up with. Amazing people are accomplishing amazing things every day. Get caught up in their successes to help make your success a reality.
7) Get Involved
Talk about your goal, with co workers, friends, others on a similar path. Meetup groups pop up every day, Craigslist and FB are other avenues to find groups of people that may be seeking the very same goal you have. Networking is great not only for career advancement but personal goal advancement as well.
8) Track your progress
Without making this overly time consuming, I find it is helpful to start a separate journal for a new goal. In this journal you can plot your successes and challenges, incorporate the very powerful tool of noting gratitude as it specifically relates to your goal. It is also a great place to note books you want to read, movies to see, articles to remember that relate to your goal.
9) Don’t let a bump derail you
Life is not constant. Every day brings small and large changes into our path. Don’t expect the same growth from day to day. Acknowledge that like all other areas of life…there are good days and not so good days. If something interrupts your progress, don’t throw it all away because you feel discouraged in the moment. Tomorrow provides a new page, a new opportunity to embrace your goal all over again.
10) Pump it Up
Excitement breeds excitement. Relish the opportunity for growth and change. Embrace the sheer headiness of getting in touch with your power, your inner self that knows anything can be accomplished. Celebrate the joy that is pure excitement.
