There are many self confidence building exercises available today. These exercises are aimed at helping you build your self esteem, develop more self worth and create the life of your dreams. But before you take on these activities, it is important to understand that self esteem is a product of both external as well as internal factors. This means you need to work on your internal and external persona to get the right balance in life. The exercises I have shared below are focused on transforming you from the inside, so you may need to find other resources for enhancing your external attributes.
Write down an affirmations list.
The exercise of making an affirmations list have long been used by counselors, therapists and professionals in helping people improve their perception towards themselves. It is a relatively simple activity that you sure could do on your own. It is best to make this list on your personal journal, but if you don’t have one, any piece of paper will do. In the list, you should write down everything that you find positive about yourself-- your strengths, the things you admire about yourself, special attributes, talents, your greatest achievements in your life so far as well as the things that you do that make you feel good about yourself. The more things you write on your list, the better. This list would serve as a reminder of how great you really are.
Make a self-esteem calendar.
This exercise will help make your days more interesting and uplifting. But more than that, it will give you that amazing feeling of being able to accomplish something. For this activity, all you need is a calendar with large blank spaces and a marker. Once you have these materials ready, sit down and think of things that you want to do or things that you would enjoy doing. Then place one activity in each blank space in your calendar. Your activities can be as simple as calling a friend, going out for a stroll or taking a trip to the beach. But you can also opt for more complicated feats like learning how to bake, starting a garden or renovating your room. It’s really up to you. Just make sure that you make a commitment to check your calendar every day and do whatever you have scheduled for yourself.
Put up a vision board.
A vision board is a powerful visual tool to set your intentions in place. For this exercise,all you need is a peice of poster paper, scissors, some glue or tape, and a stack of magazines. Look through all the magazines you have and choose pictures of things you desire and cut out inspiring phrases or words and put them up on a board. By creating this board, you are creating a bridge between what is in your mind to a tangible board you can see and touch. This is a powerful step towards taking action and making your goals and dreams a reality. Display this board in a visible location so that you will have a constant reminder of the dreams and goals you want to achieve.
Do a mutual complimenting exercise.
Get together for 10 minutes with a person you like and trust. Set a timer for five minutes or note the time on a watch or clock. One of you begins by complimenting the other person—saying everything positive about the other person—for the first five minutes. Then the other person does the same thing to that person for the next five minutes. Notice how you feel about yourself before and after this exercise. Repeat it often.
Having made the decision to work on your self confidence, I believe that you are on your way to improving your life—career and social life. Any of the above stated activities will help you feel better about yourself and reinforce your self confidence over the long term. Read through them. Do those that seem most comfortable to you. And see changes in yourself little by little.
