If 2 people are using the same proven formula for closing the sale time and time again, and one is closing the sale 70% of the time, and the other one isn't, what is the difference?
Well if they are using the same script and speaking to the same people, then the difference has to be in the person using the script. And of course, this all boils down to their mindset. The mindset being what we are thinking, feeling and believing, whether consciously or unconsciously.
Our mindset is the biggest determing factor in all our lives, not least in business, so this automatically carries through to when we are having the sales conversation with our prospective clients. Our mindset is the cause, if you like, and everything thereafter is the effect. Only in our society today, we tend to think of it the other way round. The cause is everything that happens and the effect is what we are thinking and feeling.
So if we could really get to grips with this part, really grasp the importance of our own thinking and feelings, our own mindset, we would definitely be far more effective in all walks of life, not least in our business. And that's exactly why I am sharing what I feel to be 4 extremely important keys around our mindset.
A very enlightening piece of information to share with you that is very relevant too is that only 7% of all communication is via the spoken word - just 7%!! The rest is via body language and tonality which goes to prove that the actual words that we speak have much less effect than where we are coming from – our mindset and/or our energy. It is a scientific fact that our mind/our thinking and body are inextricably connected, so it is a given that our state of mind is going to be communicated via our bodies and tone of voice, whether that is in person or down a phone line or internet connection.
So you can see why it is incredibly important to get your mindset right before the conversation. Your relationship with you is most important always, this is where that great energy is going to flow from. Please don't underestimate this. This is where most people go wrong, they jump to the strategy and think that's what counts.
So here are the 4 golden keys for mindset
1.Non attachment to outcome – set your intention and let go of any expectation. It is really important that people do not pick up on any desperation or neediness because this is the biggest turn off. We've all experienced those conversations where the salesperson is desperate to get the sale. Do not pick up the phone if you are attached.
2.Selling is something do FOR someone not TO them – when you really know this to be true, that sales is about service, we are doing people a service by sharing with them what we have to offer, then it becomes so much easier. See yourself as an advocate, you want nothing less than the best for this person - can you help them, is yours the best service/product for them? If not, refer out – this creates great karma – it's a win-win-win and may well help you in really believing that you are doing this FOR them.
3.Believe in what you are selling- you have to believe in your services/products – if you don't, then they won't either, it's as simple as that. This could also be called certainty. When you are 100% certain in what you are selling, noone can persuade you otherwise. How certain are you of our name? That's the certainty you are looking for in your services and products, that's what will shine through to your prospect.
4.Confidence – probably the most important element. Something that comes up with every single client I work with in one way or another, not feeling confident. Confidence is something people feel, it is a client magnet for sure, and a lack of it can be a client repellant. Set out by guiding the sales conversation and show your confidence.
I encourage you to take a look at these 4 factors and be really honest with yourself. Do you have these in place? Are they already part of your make-up. If they are congratulations, your business will be flowing fantastically. If not, then please do give this time. As I said earlier, don't do yourself the disservice of jumping this and thinking it will take care of yourself, that's exactly where most people go wrong! Gift yourself with a mindset for success.
