I recently read an article regarding what the Dalai Lama had to say about recent events in Paris, where he suggested that we stop praying for Paris and instead work for peace. The article went further to suggest that the Dalai Lama said, "We cannot solve this problem only through prayers. I am a Buddhist and I believe in praying. But humans have created this problem, and now we are asking God to solve it. It is illogical. God would say, solve it yourself because you created it in the first place." Interesting comments indeed from an individual held in such high regard by so many throughout the world.

While I would agree with much of what is purported to have been said, this humble human would like to challenge the suggestion that we stop praying for Paris and that in continuing to pray we are somehow asking God to solve the problem. On those two points I am compelled to differ. Or am I?

The tragic events that occurred in Paris are not isolated. There are many more incidences where human life has been sacrificed and yet has not received the same degree of attention or focus as that in Paris. Prayers need to be said for the world, not just Paris. And those prayers must be filled with love, peace and gratitude.

Those familiar with Law of Attraction recognize that each and every being upon this planet came here to expand their soul and chose lessons to learn along the way to accomplish this. At first the universal laws give us all a gentle nudge in the direction in which we need to proceed. In times when we are not awakened or receptive to the lessons or opportunities to learn those lessons, the reminders will continue to come, in ever increasing intensity, until we are compelled to stare them in the eye and do something. Not just do something, change to doing and being something different.

If you have been watching the news broadcasts regarding global responses to what has taken place in Paris, and elsewhere in the world, and aware of the opportunities presented to humanity at this time, you will have observed that the way in which political leaders are approaching the response appears to be varied. Some are choosing to respond in the same manner as the acts which have been perpetrated i.e. with increased and intensified bombings of places aka violence, while others are talking about finding a more 'diplomatic' resolution focused on a peaceful approach.

Offering prayers that political leaders and citizens of the world be guided towards peace and make decisions that are supportive of such an outcome is not asking God to solve the problem. Rather, it is asking for supreme guidance, support, and awareness to be given, so that the world may learn its lessons about violence and what violence does to a society, a species, a planet. Of course, it is up to those leaders and citizens whether they open, become receptive to, and follow the guidance given.

As individuals living within a global community, we can choose how we personally respond. We can choose to become filled with hatred, anger, fear and lash out at those whom we feel are responsible. Or we can make a conscious decision to extend love, compassion and peace. The choice is ours to make. According to the choice we make we either serve to assist the world to learn its lessons and raise the global consciousness as well as our own, or we won't. It's as simple as that.

One choice will help to create a more peaceful, loving and aware citizenship, and one will continue to promote the kind of citizenship that fuels the fire that leads to events such as that in Paris. What would your preference be?

World events, the uprising of the darkness that seems to have stirred fear in the heart of humanity, can only be changed by addressing what helped to create it in the first place, and the shining of light, love and peace. In this respect, the darkness of the human consciousness is staring humanity in the face. As individuals, as a global community, are we prepared to step up and face this dark night of the collective soul, the oneness of our being, and learn the lessons, embrace the opportunities for the expansion of the collective and individual soul so that the power of love replaces the love of power, with peace as the outcome?

The world, and its people are grieving. Yet in the midst of the grief is strength. A desire for peace. An outpouring of love and unity among peoples throughout the world.

Each being who has had their human life ended through events such as that in Paris has brought humanity to a crossroad. Each has left with a legacy in the hearts and minds of those whom they were engaged in their human experience. Who they were and what they individually accomplished in this life has now ended. However, what they have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.

This is where we also need to offer prayers of gratitude. These beautiful souls gave of their life as humans and have given humanity as a whole the gift of an opportunity to reflect upon what created situations and circumstances on the planet that brought about, created, such tragedy. Not only that, they have given in the most extreme manner, the opportunity of change.

If it were possible for a magic wand to be waved and overnight each person were to be able to awake to living in a world overflowing with peace, love, joy and harmony, that would indeed be divine. However, that's not the way things work.

It's going to take time for humanity to globally reach this place. Yet, we can make a start, indeed we already have. To intensify the light, we must as individuals address the terror within. We must find the peace within ourselves, and as we do so, radiate this out into the world. We must re-educate our minds, engage our heart and expand our soul. We must BE the change we want to see in the world! Only then, will the power of love, peace and light reign supreme.
