Kwan Yin is the Sacred Feminine Buddhist Goddess of love, compassion and mercy. She is also called the Mother of all Buddhas and the Chinese Divine Mother.

Kwan Yin's qualities of unconditional love, compassion and mercy are sought after by spiritual seekers and people in need from many different spiritual paths, religions and cultures around the world. These qualities are the same qualities of the Sacred Feminine.

By honoring the Sacred Feminine Goddess we help to balance the male female energy within us and in the universe. Kwan Yin blesses and empowers the female energy for all beings on Mother Earth.

Bodhisattva

 Kwan Yin dedicated her life to being the expression of unconditional love, compassion and altruistic service to humanity. As a result Kwan Yin became a Bodhisattva, which means "enlightened being." Kwan Yin is therefore considered the patron saint of Reiki Healing. Reiki's original purpose was to help all beings become enlightened, where the healing aspect was secondary. This is one of the many things that I love about Kwan Yin and Reiki Healing for I believe we are all here to become enlightened.

As a Bodhisattva Kwan Yin no longer had the need to reincarnate as she has earned the right to transcend the earthly world of pain and suffering and enter nirvana or heaven through her selfless service to humanity.

Instead though, Kwan Yin chose to return to earth to help deliver others out of pain and suffering and into enlightenment with her. In fact she has vowed to stay on earth to help all beings reach enlightenment or God consciousness. Patience is another of her beautiful attributes.

Kwan Yin and Mother Mary

Kwan Yin and Mother Mary have the same beautiful qualities of love, compassion, mercy and comfort. Both are Mother Goddesses dedicated to helping those in need who are sick, afraid or suffering in some way.

Unconditional love, compassion and mercy are expressed by Kwan Yin and Mother Mary especially when they protect the weak, mothers, babies and children on planet earth. Their comforting energy heals the hearts of those who suffer. To this day I attribute the healing of my own heart to both Kwan Yin and Mother Mary.

Purity and Compassion

Kwan Yin is depicted as dressed in white which reflects her purity of spirit. She is holding a vase that contains the compassion that she pours onto humanity. The willow branch that she holds in her right hand means that she is able to bend but not break.

Often Kwan Yin is shown seated on a lotus blossom which is the Buddhist symbol of purity and beauty befitting the Sacred Feminine Goddess and Mother of all Buddhas. Tirelessly she works to save all humans, uplifting their spirits so as to transcend their tribulations and experience Goddess consciousness.

Many years ago when I lived in Maui I was introduced to Kwan Yin by my Chinese neighbor. She showed me the statue of the Mother Goddess and explained to me how Kwan Yin answered her prayers for her children and her husband. At the foot of the altar my neighbor would place fresh fruit as a daily offering to the Chinese Divine Mother. As I tuned into the energy of Kwan Yin I felt relaxed, protected and comforted by her presence much like the energy of Mother Mary.

"She Who Hears the Cries of the People"

Since childhood I have always been connected to Mother Mary. A few years ago when I went to purchase a statue for our backyard altar in Seattle, I thought that I would be drawn to a statue of the Blessed Mother. To my surprise I was guided to purchase a statue of Kwan Yin.

Ever since that time I have connected more powerfully to Kwan Yin and her energy which is described as "she who hears the cries of the people." I, like so many others receive solace from Kwan Yin especially when going through many intense challenges on the spiritual path.

Path of Devotion

In gazing at Kwan Yin, whose statue is now in the front yard of our upstate New York home, I understand that I am receiving the beautiful qualities of love, compassion and mercy through my own intention on my path of devotion.

On the path of devotion we have the opportunity to receive and develop those qualities that the deity expresses and inspires. The next step on the path of devotion is to share those qualities with our fellow brothers and sisters on the earth, just as the Mother Goddess Kwan Yin does for all of us so selflessly.

Kwan Yin embodies all the powerful, beautiful qualities of the Sacred Feminine that is present within each of us whether we are female or male. When we honor the Sacred Feminine presence in each Goddess such as Kwan Yin we are honoring and balancing the male female energy within us and in the universe. We then elevate our own God and Goddess consciousness as well as all of humanity for we are one. And so it is.
