How to stop being blunt under the pressure of problems?
LANGOLIERS OF OUR PSYCHE
In Stephen King's story, Langoliers are strange time-eating creatures. But they lived not only in the head of the genius writer. They live in the psyche of each of us, and skillfully controlling our behavior, they eat up our time, eat up our life ... How does this happen?
To understand why we do not have time to do anything, but continue to waste precious time, let's turn to some interesting psychological research. They relate to the influence on the psyche of people with warning labels and illustrations on cigarette packs. It turns out that these warnings only work properly on a non-smoking audience, scaring them away from tobacco. But this "whip" makes smokers to smoke even more. Why? Because they (at least on a subconscious level) strain the smoker, once again reminding him of his weakness. That is, they act as a stress factor. How is the smoker used to react to stress? That's right, through smoking another cigarette.
Similarly, the "langoliers of our psyche" eat up time through the phenomenon of procrastination. They create an alarming feeling that we are not doing well somewhere (although in reality this is almost always not true). By succumbing to this anxiety, we begin to rush even more. The process begins to accelerate itself and, ultimately, a mental spasm sets in: we feel that everything is bad and control over the situation is lost. And when it is impossible to win or run away from a saber-toothed tiger, the cave savage is used to freezing so that they will not notice, and if they notice, then they will be recognized as dead. A painful and highly unproductive period of procrastination ensues. And here the "Langoliers" with our own hands begin to eat up time. But there is a way to destroy them.
To beat procrastination and kick the Langolier's ass, you need to relieve the mental spasm and pull yourself out of the stress. It is sensations, because stress is our subjective perception of a stressful situation, and not some unambiguous stress factor. In the overwhelming majority of cases, we are worried about any nonsense that does not deserve any attention. And all because they are devoid of real problems.
So when a wave of procrastination hits you, stop and listen to the silence. One minute. This will allow you to stop chewing on consumer gum and break away from the destructiveness that your langoliers use to eat your time. Listen to the silence and your breathing, relax the muscles of the whole body, release the tension. Take a close look at your surroundings. This is your life. Start living it slowly. Just start DOING BUSINESS, remembering that any rush will only play into the hands of the time eaters.
Learn, whatever you are doing, to be present in the moment and take your time. Doing quickly will turn out when you learn to do it easily. You will learn how to do it easily when you release the tension. Release the tension when you stop rushing. Haste kills life. Haste is the Langolier's tool.
But if you are not in a hurry, how can you manage everything? Very simple. Plan your time using the laws of a harmonious daily routine. However, more on that next time.
