I cannot remember the first time I wore glasses. Neither do I have a memory of never having them perched on my nose 24/7.   I would be envious of other kids because they did not have to wear those unsightly spectacles.

You know the plastic glasses with the extra strong lenses. I cannot even tell you what wearing glasses did for my self-esteem. I became obsessed with trying to find a cure for my poor eyesight.

While I could now afford more stylish eyewear, I craved to know what it feels like not to need glasses. And yes, there is a certain lass that I have been eyeing. She has agreed to go on a date with me, and I cannot wait for her to see my green eyes without glasses. So I had to act quickly.

I happened to stumble upon the Orlando-based LASIK clinic due to its great reviews, and I liked what they had to offer. Before I made an appointment, I set out to find out more about the treatment.

This is what I learned:

  1. There is no guarantee that the surgery will work. There is a possibility that I will continue to wear spectacles afterward
  2. it is essential to get an eye doctor with the right experience and the right modern yet proven, certified and homologated technology
  3. The number of treatments will depend on my eye issues. since I am myopic, I may need repeat procedure or refinement in the future
  4. LASIK surgery is not for everyone. Luckily I am above the age of 18, and I do not suffer from any autoimmune diseases. I also do not have glaucoma, diabetes, and dry eye syndrome. I am also not on any prescription drugs that could interfere with the procedure.
  5. I will be awake during the surgery and will get to see everything that is happening
  6. Certain complications may occur. Such include over-correction, under-correction, infections, and inflammations, among others.

I can honestly say it was quite an eye-opener reading about the surgery. I am usually very suspicious of advertisements that guarantee treatment. I understood that I should not buy into the advertising hype.

 What to Expect from LASIK?

I took the leap and went in for a free consultation. After a battery of examinations, the doctor gave me the go-ahead for the surgery. The procedure was surprisingly short and pain-free, less than 15 minutes.

The doctor immobilizes the eyes so that I did not blink at all. Thankfully, I did not have any post-op problems like inflammations or infections. I, however, did experience an issue with the glare in the initial stages, but the issue resolved itself. I also had to use some eye drops for some time.

Did It Work?

I had a few post-op consultations without requiring any refinement. The doctor also emphasized that I should go in for the annual checks as the only maintenance I needed to do.

Other than that, the most important thing is that for once in my life, I was able to put my glasses aside. And yes, you may be wondering how the date went. All I can say is that she did tell me that I have absolutely beautiful eyes. Lol.
