Weight loss forms an integral part of the overall treatment of people suffering from heart conditions. Excess weight exerts extra pressure on the heart for pumping blood to all the body parts. Exercising for weight loss can have a positive influence on a number of factors which increase the risks of heart disease such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity. However exercising mindlessly to gain weight loss can have disastrous, even fatal results for those suffering from heart conditions. If you have a heart condition or have had a heart surgery, you must first get medical clearance and stick to certain exercising guidelines as suggested by your doctor before you begin working out.

Exercising for Heart Patients: Guidelines

Here are some exercising guidelines for people suffering from heart conditions.

1.Monitor your work out intensity. Ensure that you stay within your heart rate zone. Your physician will determine your individual heart rate through a treadmill test.

2.Get in touch with your physician immediately if you feel any abnormal symptoms or signs such as labored breathing, extreme fatigue or chest pain, before, while or after exercising.

3.Try to have a minimum of three to four workout sessions in a week. Perform a warm up before working out and a cool down session afterwards for about 10 minutes at least. The total duration of the work out session should be increased from 30 minutes to 60 minutes gradually over the duration of about one to six months.

4.Carry nitroglycerine with you if your physician has prescribed it, especially when you work out.

5.Never over exercise to the point where you might get angina or chest pain. If however, you do start having chest pain, call the emergency services immediately.

6.Walking and cycling are two great exercises for people suffering from heart conditions. A 20 minute brisk walk or cycling down the park can work wonders.
