“Silent mentors” are those people who have impacted your life in a positive way — often by writing a book, speaking truth, offering a freebie — like an audio or special report and generally being of service to make a difference in the world. I call them “Silent mentors” not because they are quiet but because their teachings or words have shaped lives in amazing ways and often they don’t know it.
So, I’ve decided to share a list of some of my Silent Mentors here and share how they touched my life (either by simply being of service or by sharing their gifts and message in a BIG way).
1) Adam Urbanski: We’ve never actually worked together but when I started my business I was one of his loyal Marketing Mentor subscribers. His enthusiasm and passion created a spark in me which led me to follow my dreams and share my information with others to help them grow. Without knowing it he inspired me to create the original POWER Planning Process began as an eBook and program I share via teleseminars and more (the more is my book on the same topic that I’m finishing this year — finally).
2) Jill Lublin: I heard Jill speak on a teleseminar for a women writers association many years ago. On the call she offered a Q & A session and helped me get really clear on how to describe what I do in my business (this was nearly 7 years ago and she probably doesn’t even remember it). I’ll never forget.
3) Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield: Together the Chicken Soup for the Soul guys wrote a book called The Aladdin Factor (I believe long before Chicken Soup for the Soul fame). This book taught me to be fearless about asking for what I want in business and sometimes in life. It’s a must read for anyone.
4) Don Miguel Ruiz: The Four Agreements continues to rock my world. I read and re-read this book often and always glean new insight.
This is just a sampling of my Silent Mentors — I wanted to publicly thank and acknowledge them for being who they are and playing BIG. So, thanks.
I have other mentors who are not so silent. These are the people I’ve invested top dollar to work with to build my business and the three who have been most beneficial to me are:
1) Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero: I invested in Lorrie’s Red Hot Copy to Woo Your Target Market self-study copywriting program after hearing her on a teleseminar — the experience was like having coffee with like-minded girlfriends and I knew I had to work with her. From there I took a BIG leap and mentored directly with her and am now blessed to call her my friend.
2) James Roche’: I met James when he did one of his first live presentation at Lorrie’s Speed Copywriting Workshop and have continued to follow his work from there. James offered a program several years ago that changed my life. One of the exercises required that we ask people in our life about our strengths and weaknesses. Although I invested in his services to build my business, this exercise changed my life. It illuminated relationships that were supportive and good and others that needed to change. I’ve gone on to invest in Strategy Sessions with James and his perspective and ideas continually boost my bottom line. Plus, as an extra bonus he married the fabulous Melanie Roche who is wonderful person and gifted energetic.
3) Ali Brown: I started following Ali when I learned of her via Lorrie. Several years ago, two days before one of her OSBW events, I made a spur of the moment decision to attend and my life has never been the same. I’ve invested in her programs over the years and now serve as a Mastermind Leader in her Millionaire Protege Club. My life has transformed personally, professionally and spiritually from this experience and I feel blessed to have found my “tribe”.
I also work with a group of trusted Mastermind advisors. These are people who hold me accountable, help me see my business more clearly when I have stuck spots and provide lots of laughs along the way. We are all Mastermind leaders for Ali’s programs and we meet regularly via telephone and several times a year in person to work on our businesses. But, we’ve become much more than a Mastermind, we are friends, colleagues and an entrepreneurial family. I cannot imagine my life with out each of them. Our group consists of Gail Saseen, Nicole Beurkens, Lisa Manyon, James Roche, Ali Brown, Michele Dekinder-Smith, Joanna Garzilli, Sue Painter and Joy Chudacoff.
My point is sharing all of this is that it’s important to invest in yourself and your business. Sometimes you’ll be touched by Silent Mentors, others you’ll step up your game and play big with high-end coaching program and if you’re really lucky all of those relationships will evolve into lasting friendships, too.
