DATING
Dating. Who ever invented such a morbid institution?
When one meets, all hopes open.
Will this be the big #1?
First date goes well.
A kiss, a sweet kiss.
Sometimes a passionate one.
Then the lady waits.
She waits by that phone.
How many years does one wait
For that damn phone to ring?
Then there are those who call him.
But too much of that leads to chasing,
And God forbid they should be chased.
One cannot open the heart too soon.
Otherwise it may be shattered even sooner.
The game of chase has begun.
And only the male has to feel like
He has caught his mate.
Oh for the romances
Where one can openly and immediately say
"Wow, you are beautiful,
In all that you do,
And almost immediately I love you."
THE PHONE CALL
I mean really
Sitting here at one a.m.,
Waiting for that damn phone to ring.
Here I sit.
Something is unfair.
Something is not equal.
Why all this time,
Sitting by the phone.
Twenty years out of my life.
And I sit and wait.
Sometimes patiently.
Sometimes in despair.
Sometimes to say with my heart
I do hope he calls.
Other times to say,
To hell with him.
If he doesn't see someone special
Who needs him?
But yet I sit and wait.
With that phone stuck to my hip,
Going in every room I walk in,
Waiting for that familiar ring.
Last night it was a wrong number.
