While everyone reacts to situations differently, some of the biggest causes of stress today are common among a lot of us. But the truth is, even though these things are labeled as "causes of stress" the only thing that can actually cause your stress is YOU.
Your belief system will dictate what types of things create a stress response within you. If you were to change or adjust your beliefs about things and situations that stress you out, you would also likely affect your level of stress response to those things as well.
So as we go through and list off some of the biggest causes of stress, consider your beliefs about these particular things and consider how much stress they cause you. If you can change your way of thinking... or your belief that something is bad, horrible, unfair, or uncomfortable, you will be able to deal with these difficult situations without added stress.
Money or Financial Problems
Don't have enough money? Have too much money? Not sure how to manage it... or get it? Money (whether you have too much, too little, or just enough) seems to cause a lot of people BIG problems and a lot of stress. After all, it is often reported that the number one reason for divorce is financial stress.
Adjusting your feelings and beliefs about money will go a long way in helping you manage and eliminate this type of stress. It is also a good idea to get assistance in managing your money if you need to. People who are in big trouble financially often report feeling extreme relief after seeking assistance from a financial advisor or debt counselor.
Family and Relationship Stress
Any time you deal with other people, especially people you are close to, there are bound to be arguments, disagreements, and annoyances. This is difficult to avoid altogether. However, by being in tune with the different dynamics you have with different people, and by taking responsibility for your own stress, you can prepare yourself more adequately to deal with stressful situations. For example, if you know that you and your sister never agree on anything and you'll be stuck with her over the holidays, prepare yourself by having stress management ideas already in place. Also be sure that you're eating well and getting plenty of exercise, so that you're not only in good physical shape, but good mental shape as well. Being healthy can help to prevent stress as well as lessen its effects.
Workplace Stress
Nearly everyone who has held a job has experienced workplace stress at one time or another. Unfortunately, there are some people who experience it on a daily basis. That is why it is labeled as one of the biggest causes of stress. There are so many different factors at work from the job to the people that can create a stress response and it's nearly impossible to avoid. However, like dealing with family stress or any other type of stress, there are ways to prevent and cope with workplace stress as well.
Regardless of what causes your stress, you have many different options to manage it properly and effectively. By learning effective stress management, taking responsibility for your own stress, and by adjusting your beliefs, there is no reason that you can't overcome the biggest causes of stress.
