One of the top government medical colleges in India, Assam Medical College is the first and oldest medical college of North-Eastern India. The medical college since its inception has produced more than 7536 medical graduates as well as 2758 specialists. The first batch of 12 medical students was graduated in 1952 under the Guwahati University. The medical college was approved by the Indian Medical Council in 1952 and the postgraduate medical courses were introduced in the year 1960.

One of the top medical colleges in India, Assam Medical College Dibrugarh is accredited by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and is included in the list of the World Directory of Medical Schools. The medical college was earlier affiliated to the Dibrugarh University and is currently affiliated to the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences.

UG Medical Course
The undergraduate medical course offered at the top medical college, Assam Medical College is a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery i.e. MBBS with a duration of 4 ½  years followed by one year of compulsory internship. The total intake capacity for the MBBS Course is 200.

Undergraduate Medical Admission Process
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates seeking MBBS Admission in one of the best medical colleges in India i.e. Assam Medical College Dibrugarh must have
• Completed 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of MBBS admission.
• Passed HSC examination (Academic Stream of 10+2 curriculum) of any State/CBSE/ISC or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, with the group of subjects like - English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (or Botany & Zoology) / Biotechnology and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying Entrance Exam. In respect of the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (NCL), the minimum marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the qualifying examination shall be 40% marks for Unreserved and General-EWS Candidates. In respect of PwD candidates, the minimum marks in the qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany & Zoology)/Biotechnology taken together shall be 45% instead.

MBBS Entrance Exam
NEET UG is a common MBBS entrance exam conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to the MBBS course in medical colleges in India. The medical college runs the Rural Health Training Centre at Chabua and Urban Health Training Centre at Dibrugarh. Assam Medical College is the first medical college to have a Radiology department with fully functional X-Ray machines that came from England in 1910. The Department of Microbiology attained a significant milestone by getting a certificate of accreditation from NABL. With this, it has become the second medical college in India to get NABL certificate.
