Approximately 40% of all infertility is directly associated with the male partner. The semen analysis is the most common test to evaluate and to determine if infertility is caused due to male factor. The common causes of male infertility are provided below:
Azoospermia: When there is not an single sperm cells are produced
Oligospermia: Where very few sperm cells are produced
Teratospermia: where the shape of the large proportion of sperms are abnormal
• Absent or blocked vas deferens
• Cystic fibrosis or chromosomal abnormality caused due to genetic condition
• Extensive large sperm DNA fragmentation that can adversely affect the ability of a sperms to successfully fertilize an egg
• Sperm antibodies that can intervenes with sperm fertilization and motility

If you ever have ever conceived a child with a partner in the past, it doesn't indicate that your sperm is still compatible with your current partner.

Reasons for poor sperm health
The main factors that affect the sperm as given below:
• Lifestyle and health factor factors such as excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, drugs including steroids and its recreational use, body weight issue and imperfect Body Mass Index (BMI).
• Past medical conditions such as an undescended testes, STD, hernia or serious trauma.
• A recent acute viral illness can also temporarily down grade the sperm health.

The scientific studies suggested that there is no such evidence that wearing tight clothes may affect the quality of your sperm. Diet, food supplements and vitamins doesn't affect the sperm count at greater extent. Although, sports injuries to the groin may have a bad impact on the sperm production and quality but still it is very rare. Age of a male normally doesn't affect his fertility as compared to female. However in the quality of sperm is gradually declining after the age of 45. After this age, damage to sperm DNA increases and sperm motility, morphology and volume declines.

Other causes of male infertility
Retrograde ejaculation: Retrograde ejaculation is a male health condition in where rather than out through the urethra during ejaculation some or all semen flows backwards into the bladder. Producing very low or apparently nil semen during ejaculation in the primary symptoms and can be diagnosed with semen analysis and a urine sample.

Immunological infertility: If a man develops anti-sperm antibodies against his own sperm, this condition is caused due to male immunological infertility. These antibodies adversely affect the movement of the sperm and their ability to fertilize the egg. In such situation Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) can be helpful to achieve a successful pregnancy.

Hyperprolactinemia: If there is a rise in prolactin hormone in the blood stream, the condition known as Hyperprolactinemia. It can cause male infertility by badly affecting the natural function of the testicles, abnormal sperm production, abnormal sperm production and low testosterone levels. There are also treatments available for hyperprolactinemia.

Occlusion: Occulsion is a condition in which a man’s reproductive system got blocked and this prevents the sperm reaching the urethra. It could be a result of injury or a congenital condition and can be treated by a surgical procedure known as Vasovasectomy.
