How do you balance your business and family life? For me personally, it takes time and discipline to balance both.
Below, I've listed 5 Tips you can use to balance your own business and family life:
1. Business priorities vs. family priorities
- When spending time with your family, make the quality of that time 100% focused on them and only them. Turn off your laptop and smartphone so that your mind is not distracted. That type of family time is priceless. Then, when you're ready to concentrate on business priorities, give that element your undivided attention. Separating the two is key to a successful business and family life.
2. Business responsibilities vs. family responsibilities
- Having a passion for business is what makes or breaks a business. As a business owner, managing and controlling all sorts of responsibilities that come with running a business is vital to its success. Having a great support system from family members is also key. Giving your business respect is just as important to family as family respect is as important to your business. By protecting your business responsibilities, you're also protecting you and your family's financial life.
3. Business finances vs. family finances
- Determine what your business goals are by taking a hard look at your available business finances and resources. Keeping separate banking accounts helps in setting the right type of financial boundaries. Keeping separate records is also imperative when it comes to filing your year end taxes.
4. Business advise vs. family advise.
- An honest assessment of your strengths and weaknesses for both business and family can be a driving force to success. Plan and choose your top priorities and goals so that your focus is that much clearer and is much easier to stay on track.
5. Business goals vs. family goals
- Set goals for different parts of your business and family life. Set a schedule that is divided into time slots for each area of your life. Let family members know when you'll be working in your home office every weekday between a certain time. In return, set a goal for family time. Thoroughly communicate your plans and expectations that will help balance out both business and family goals.
The above 5 Tips have helped me balance my own business and family life and hope it will help you too.
