Neelam Stone-The Beloved Stone of Lord Shani

Neelam is known with several other names such as Sauri Ratna, Shanipriya, and Yakut, but Blue Sapphire remains the most prominent of all. While Sauri Ratna and Shanipriya define its divine association with planet Saturn, Blue Sapphire says a lot about its color properties. As the name precisely suggests, it prominently comes in Neelam or blue color, and its various other shades such as sky blue and pink.

Sources
India, Russia, America, Sri Lanka, and Thailand are the prominent sources of this stone. In India, it is found in Kashmir. The form found there is referred as ‘Mayur Neelam’ because its color is similar to the color of a peacock’s neck. Amongst the various forms found at these different places, those found in Sri Lanka are considered to be the best of the lot.

Forms
Neelam stone is of two forms, Indranil and Jalnil. The former form is found in dark blue color, which is similar to the color of a peacock’s neck. The latter form has dark shades of blue color as its borders, and little less intense blue in the middle.

Impact: Intense and Quick
In early times, kings and rulers used to possess this stone with a purpose of protecting themselves from others’ envy and anger. Besides this particular aspect, there are few other aspects of essence to this stone. Neelam holds an ability to make extremely intense impact in quick time. Rules of Wearing It
For astrology based purpose, make sure to have Blue Sapphire stone of at least 3 Ratti, preferably in either silver or iron. On any auspicious Saturday, drop in the ring of this stone in a copper bowl filled with water. Bring the ring out, and offer that water in the roots of any Peepal tree. Around two hours before sunset, wear ring in the middle finger of your left hand while devotedly chanting the associated Mantra of “Om Aim Hreem Shaneharaya Namah". Conclude the process by paying devoted prayers to Lord Saturn. Donate black urad, salt, tea leaves, soap, mustard oil, and money on the roots of any Peepal tree, in as much quantity as you want. Also, serve green leaves and cottons seeds to a male buffalo, and offer milk to Shivalinga.
